The negativity that has surrounded the Atari Jaguar console since it’s release in 1993 is not totally unfounded. I'm sure most classic or nostalgic gamers have heard of the game Checkered Flag for the Atari Jaguar. But I'm also sure that it was mentioned as a joke or a way to put the system down more than likely. Many people were left with this memory of what 3D racing on the Atari Jaguar was like and stayed away at all costs. Can World Tour Racing for the JaguarCD make believers out of them.
Ok, Ok…. So, you want a fast-moving, twin-stick, manga-style, mech space shooter?! Oh, and you want it to be good?! Well, guess what? RealTech VR has the Apple TV covered. It’s everything you wanted and quite a bit more even if the game is a bit short. Here’s my review of the newly updated and smoothly animated game, Quantum Revenge from RealTech VR.
The Afterpulse, from Digital Legends, was released for the Apple TV much to my surprise and joy in 2015! I had been watching the progress on the iOS version and was happy to give it a shot on the Apple TV. The graphics were amazing and the gameplay was very well done, though the fact that there was no Y-Axis invert option was a little disappointing to me as that is what I always use and have since FPS games started showing up in the early 90’s. But now it has some major issues and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be fixed. :(
It’s a bit funny to many of my friends that I am a tennis fan and watch most of the major Men’s and Women’s Tournaments year round being that I was in a thrash metal band in the late 80’s. But my Mother played Tennis and I was always intrigued by it. And you know what, it’s physically and mentally challenging! Here’s my review of Tennis Champs Returns from Uprising Games.
Formula 1 is one of the worlds best known and most popular forms of motorsport. It may not be as well known here in the US, but I have been a fan since I was introduced to it in the late 80’s. The cars were beautifully violent and I was instantly hooked. You can imagine my surprise when I saw that F1 ended up on our beloved Apple TV! Here’s my review of F1 2016 from Codemasters.
Alliance: Air War has been updated! Unfortunately, there’s not a great deal of new content, but the new aircraft are beautifully and meticulously detailed for flight sim and fighter fans alike.
The Apple TV does have some very exciting racing titles for fans to salivate over. Rush Rally 2 is one of those titles and to be quite honest, it’s a hell of a lot better than many of the racing games in the Apple TV App Store.
OK, so I am a racing fanatic at heart and SuperBike 16 from Digital Tales took me a bit by surprise when it was released. But I was glad to see it show up. Heck, it’s another racing game for the Apple TV that utilizes an Mfi controller. Now, to be honest, it’s a fairly average one, but it can still be a lot of fun.
Mythology has been a favorite subject of mine since I was a kid in school in the early 80’s. Gods of Rome has been out for iOS for a while, but was just recently released on the Apple TV. I wanted to play the game on my iPad Pro, but there was no controller support and I just cannot use touchscreen controls, so when it was released for Apple TV with controller support, I immediately grabbed my Nimbus controller and got to work.
Well, at least Gameloft was kind enough to give us AppleTV gamers a few updates before they stopped supporting the tvOS version of MC5. Unfortunately, this means that the AppleTV version is miles behind the iOS version and does not have a lot of the really neat features that have been added since update 1.7. We will not be seeing any more updates, but the game is still fantastic!
This will primarily be a very kind review as the game is really not finished as of yet. But it does have enough content at this point to give it a short review. Don’t let the lack of content fool you. The game is a lot of fun and very polished. But I think the best is yet to come for this aircraft warfare sim-cade. You really won’t be disappointed. Here’s my review.
So, you want to smuggle illegal contraband and shoot down some friendly spaceships? Or maybe you want to run through the galaxy, jumping from portal to portal in search of some money making side missions. Stellar Wanderer is a mix of space shooter and spacesim/RPG. There are a lot of good and only a few inconsistent things here, and I’ll let you know how Stellar Wanderer stacks up.
